SHANGHAI - Hilton Shanghai, the first international hotel brand to enter mainland China, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year having officially opened its doors to its first guests on June 28, 1988. To commemorate the event, the hotel will launch several activities highlighting and celebrating Hilton Shanghai’s importance as a pioneer in Shanghai and China’s hospitality industry.

Built on 70,000 square meters of land in Shanghai’s central business district, the 714-room Hilton Shanghai forever changed the landscape of the hospitality scene in Shanghai and China. As the first International hotel chain launched in the People’s Republic of China, it set a precedent for premier hospitality services and standards, and continues to lead the industry 25 years later.

Hilton Shanghai General Manager, Gerd Knaust, said, “Celebrating 25 years of service marks a key milestone in the history of the People’s Republic of China’s hotel industry. As an iconic landmark amongst the leading hotels in the world, Hilton Shanghai stands as a significant landmark in Shanghai’s colorful history and has shaped the hospitality industry as people know it. This is an exciting year and momentous occasion for Hilton Shanghai as it celebrates a historic past and looks forward to the future, continuing to lead the way for the hospitality industry just as the hotel did when it opened on June 28, 1988.”

Since its opening, Hilton Shanghai has played host to numerous high-profile and celebrity-studded events, such as the APEC Meeting, Shanghai World Expo 2010, China Beijing Olympics, and co-sponsorship of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix and Shanghai Rolex Masters, two of the most popular sporting events annually held in Shanghai. Hilton Shanghai has also embarked on significant social projects, such as the China Wine Challenge, Moon Cake Sustainability Program to promote environmental issues and 18 years of hosting the Charity Christmas Project, aimed at assisting charitable foundations and engaging the local population, foreign expatriates and travelers in helping the less fortunate members of the local community.

Hilton Shanghai has continued to spread the light and warmth of hospitality ever since its opening. Everyone from kings to presidents, Hollywood celebrities to F1 and tennis superstars have passed through its doors. The hotel will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a series of activities as well as the launch of a commemorative anniversary exhibition and magazine available in June, which will chronicle the hotel's fascinating history. The 25th anniversary commemorative magazine paints an in-depth picture of the hotel's illustrious history, from 1988 to the present day, including testaments, tales and dated images. The magazine, to be distributed within the hotel, is dedicated to showcasing Hilton Shanghai yesterday, today and in the future.

In addition to the magazine, in-house guests will receive a special celebratory cupcake on Friday, June 28, expertly baked by Pastry Chef Alain Wu, a 25-year employee and witness to the momentous growth of Hilton Shanghai. A photo exhibition named “Hilton Shanghai’s Growth” will be held at the hotel lobby.

Meanwhile, Hilton Worldwide is launching a series of campaigns and promotional activities to showcase its leadership in the industry and underline the company’s unwavering commitment to continuously enhancing its customer experience in China, including launching a new tour package - ‘FLAVORS OF CHINA’ - to allow tourists to effortlessly enjoy the many wonders of the country. Several 25th anniversary promotions and events will be held exclusively for guests.

Strategically located in the heart of the city’s business area, Hilton Shanghai has become a home away from home for business clients and leisure travelers from around the world. The hotel features stunning city views, modern and comfortable guest rooms and suites, impeccable service, trendy events, and extraordinary dining options from award-winning restaurants Leonardo’s and Sichuan Court. The hotel has also completed 80 percent of its renovation project giving a fresh look for guest rooms and meeting venues.
