LAN Airlines Presents 2012 Sustainability Report

For the third year running, LAN Airlines has presented its Sustainability Report. LAN is one of the first airlines in the South American region to complete a sustainability report. Available in an interactive digital format, the report highlights major milestones for the airline, including the merger of LAN and TAM Airlines to become LATAM Airlines Group, as the most important milestone in LAN’s history.

This third report features key social, environmental and economic impacts, projects and benefits that LAN has delivered in the countries in which it operates. In terms of sustainability achievements during 2012, the report details the development of biofuels, and LAN becoming the first airline in South America to operate a flight using second-generation biofuel. The historic flight was made in March 2012, between the cities of Santiago and Concepcion.

The report addresses two equally important milestones in the management of the company, which include the incorporation of LATAM Airlines Group into DJSI Emerging Markets, a stock exchange index of sustainability which brings together the 69 companies with the best sustainable development practices from a total of 800 of the largest companies in emerging markets. The other, the inclusion of the United Nations Global Compact, adhering to ten principles on human rights issues, labor standards, environment and anti-corruption.

The report is a valuable strategic document that helps us measure, manage and communicate our sustainability practices, and key focus for development and growth of the company," says Bruno Ardito, Director of Institutional Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility LAN.

The report was developed with a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) methodology, widely regarded as the most comprehensive standard of developing sustainability reports. The document was also verified for the second year in a row by Deloitte, scoring a B + rating according to GRI standards.
