BANGKOK- COTRI is a privately organised, independent institute with its head office in Heide (Germany) as well as a branch office in Beijing. The institution has also regional COTRI representatives and partners in the UK, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and other countries.

COTRI's main goal is to enable private and public companies and institutions all over the world to offer high quality travel, tourism and leisure services for Chinese visitors according to their specific expectations and demands. COTRI produces then market research, analysis, training, consulting and coaching to any company interested to reach the Chinese market. The institute was created back to 2004 by Professor Wolfgang Georg Arlt, a sinologist and tourism expert as well as a researcher with more than 30 years of business and academic experience in Chinese tourism and COTRI current director. Merging scientific, cultural and industry knowledge, COTRI cooperates with leading public and private sector tourism organisations.

China is today the undisputed number one in international tourism revenues, as it overtook last year the USA and Germany both in terms of total number of travels and spending. With Chinese outbound tourists becoming ever more travel savvy, their needs and demands are quickly evolving. To shed light on these current trends and future developments, COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute will launch the new publication C.O.M.I. China Outbound Market Intelligence from July 10th 2013.

As Chinese tourists have gained more travel experience, new trends are emerging which are signs of a rapidly maturing market: package tours are giving way to a more individual approach with self-organised activity-packed holidays. From golfing in Ireland to snow activities in Canada or snorkelling in the Maldives, there is a clear move to increasingly sophisticated diversification. C.O.M.I. will help highlighting those trends and analyses movements of the Chinese outbound tourism today and tomorrow.

C.O.M.I. will be a 36 page online publication, providing the tourism industry with the essential intelligence, insights and background information about current and future developments of the Chinese outbound tourism market. It integrates reports and statistics from international sources and exclusive research on Chinese media and social media to give the inside track on the most recent trends within the Chinese community. It will also provide comprehensive forecasts, using COTRI research by its experts. COTRI Experts Panel will also produce the China Outbound Tourism Index, which will forecast developments in China’s outbound tourism, for each quarterly publication.

Included in each issue of C.O.M.I. is an exclusive interview with one of the major personalities of Chinese outbound tourism. The first edition of C.O.M.I. will feature Zhang Guangrui, professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and doyen of Chinese tourism research in China. A two page summation of Zhang’s most recent work, China’s Tourism Development: Situation Analysis and Perspectives 2013, will also be provided.  The first quarterly edition of C.O.M.I. will be published by COTRI on July 10th.
