PORT STEPHENS - The ‘Humpback Highway’ off Port Stephens – one of the best places in Australia to see whales – is starring in a new winter ‘Go Wild’ outdoor and digital marketing campaign spearheaded by Destination Port Stephens, with support from Destination NSW.

‘Go Wild’ images of humpback whales, dolphins, sunny beaches and adventure activities in Port Stephens are appearing in ‘jealousy-inducing’ advertisements on Sydney ferries and on Melbourne trains and outdoor billboards as part of an extension of Destination Port Stephens’ successful and playful ‘P.S. I Love You’ branding to position the seaside region, 2½ hours north of Sydney, as a year-round destination. The “Go Wild’ initiative is also being supported by a fully integrated online campaign including social media and digital bloggers.

New Whale and Accommodation Package
As part of the ‘Go Wild’ campaign, the award-winning Shoal Bay Resort and Spa in Port Stephens is offering two nights in a one-bedroom apartment, buffet breakfast daily, a 2½-hour whale-watch cruise with Moonshadow Cruises, two-hour bike hire, a noon check-out and unlimited access to the resort’s Aqua Spa gym, heated indoor pool and mineral spa pools. Valid until September 19, 2013.

Destination Port Stephens Marketing Manager, Tars Bylhouwer, said “Our campaign invites Australians to experience the many things so many people love about Port Stephens as a beach and wildlife-blessed seaside destination year-round,”.

As one of Australia’s premier whale-watching venues, Port Stephens draws large numbers of whale-seeking visitors each winter during the area’s extended whale-watching season from May to November. Port Stephens and its marine park sit next to the migration path of the humpback whales. Dubbed the ‘Humpback Highway’, the route is used by more than 18,000, 50-tonne humpback whales each. The number of whales seen off Port Stephens is increasing by around 10 per cent a year.
