HONG KONG – Renaissance Hotels, the signature lifestyle brand from Marriott International Inc., celebrated Global Day of Discovery 2013 by inviting guests to discover unforgettable artistic and cultural experiences at 29 properties across the Asia Pacific region. In one action-packed day, 5,000 guests found themselves immersed in unexpected hotel activities and a variety of fascinating off-site local experiences, bringing the brand's "Discovery" philosophy to life.

Headlining this initiative was Renaissance Hotel Beijing Capital, one of Renaissance Hotels' landmark boutiques, which hosted an RLife LIVE event with a theme based on China’s growing passions – dining, photography and music.

Celebrating China's rich culinary and cultural landscape, the Renaissance Hotel Beijing Capital's RLife LIVE event featured a food photography exhibition judged by some of China's most eminent food critics, photographers and culinary talent, in addition to performances by up-and-coming Beijing Indie band and DJs. Authentic Chinese fare was offered from Jackie Sip, Executive Chef of the hotel's award-winning Fat Duck restaurant, complemented by the innovative cocktail flavours of Chinese Tea Art, a famed local mixologist.

Meanwhile, the Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel asked guests and local patrons to enjoy the beats of DJ Sam and undiscovered pleasures of "Spanish Shanghai" with an RLife LIVE event that showcased the best of Shanghai's Spanish talent. Originally hailing from Barcelona, brother duo Chef Albert Servals (Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel) and Chef Jordi Servals (T8) created dishes that combined Asian intrigue and Spanish sensibility, alongside a diverse offering of Iberico ham from 5J and Spanish wines.

Local Discovery Events that took place on June 19th also included:
· Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong, hosting a Wan Chai Heritage Tour, highlighting the distinctive architectural character of one of Hong Kong's earliest settlements, followed by a night at the exhilarating Happy Valley races.

· In Thailand, the five-star Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong and Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa welcomed the world's largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues, titled ‘The Elephant Parade', with the brightly-coloured, jewel-encrusted art pieces set to steal the show and attract support for Asian elephant conservation.

“This year's Global Day of Discovery is dedicated to celebrating Asia's unique cultural heritage and enabling guests to explore a world of exciting gems, from the Spanish flavours of Shanghai to Hong Kong's finest thoroughbreds,” said Tina Edmundson, senior vice president of lifestyle brands for Marriott International, Inc. “The Renaissance brand is built upon the philosophy that travel is defined by discovery, on 19 June 2013, we hope to make this philosophy a reality by creating unforgettable memories of our hotels and their destinations.”

The global “Get Out & Discover” initiative was created to bring the brand’s first-ever global advertising campaign to life for travelers. Launched in April 2012, the “Live Life to Discover” campaign was developed to provoke today's lifestyle-oriented business travelers to make the most of their free time by discovering something exceptional and unique beyond their hotel rooms. The visually stunning print advertisements depict off-the-beaten path recommendations from various hotel Navigators who curate unforgettable moments for guests around the world.
