Star-Studded IIFA Awards to be celebrated at Venetian Macao

MACAO - Last hosted by The Venetian in 2009, this time around there is much to celebrate. While IIFA can now boast 14 overseas awards shows and The Venetian Macao can proudly count hosting two IIFA Awards under its belt, Indian cinema celebrates a full century of film.

“The Venetian Macao is extremely pleased to once again host the world-famous IIFA Awards,” said Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sands China Ltd. “This is not just any IIFA Awards show; IIFA is celebrating a colossal 100 years of Indian cinema, and they have chosen Macao as the venue. We at The Venetian Macao are truly honoured.”

As the 2013 Official Host Destination Partner, The Venetian Macao is now one of the few destinations to have twice hosted the illustrious IIFA Awards. The Indian market is becoming increasingly important to Macao, with over 100,000 visitors arriving on its shores since 2009 when IIFA first came to town, and growing each year. The Macau Government Tourist Office continues to support the IIFA Awards in Macao this year.

A special effort will be made this year to make the IIFA Awards as green as possible. The Venetian Macao’s Green Meeting Concierge team introduced the IIFA committee to the Sands ECO360° Meetings programme, which combines The Venetian Macao’s high-performance facilities and standard sustainable practices with green meeting options, community programmes and much more.

The Venetian Macao has an ongoing commitment to bring only the best international entertainment events to Macao, remaining true to its promise by hosting such events as the immensely prestigious IIFA Awards. The IIFA three-day extravaganza includes a variety of events such as IIFA Rocks, IIFA BUZZ, IIFA Fashion Extravaganza, IIFA Film Media Briefings and IIFA Music Workshop, culminating with the IIFA Awards July 6.

The first IIFA Awards were held in London in 2000 and have gone on to cities like Sun City, Genting Highlands, Dubai, Amsterdam, Sheffield, Bangkok, Johannesburg, Toronto and Colombo among others, with the most recent edition being celebrated in Singapore. As an institution, IIFA has committed itself to taking Indian cinema to the world, through a showcase celebration at international destinations each year. While India gains greatly from the alliances made via IIFA, an important objective of the prestigious brand is to create similar outcomes in the host countries, thereby establishing a system of mutual benefit to both India and the host country by way of tourism, culture and trade, cross-border investment and film co-productions.
