GLEBE - A new, free website - Cycle Tours Global - which offers the world's most comprehensive database and search engine for bicycle tours across the planet, has been launched for travellers who prefer to explore the globe on two wheels.
Designed to take the legwork out of searching for the best cycle tours, cycletoursglobal.com profiles more than 5500 bike tours in 104 countries on six continents in one place and in the same format, providing easy and fast evaluation and comparison. Tours range from an easy 1.5 hour ramble along Manly Beach in Sydney and a 4-day, tulip tour through Holland – the home of cycling - to an epic 132-day Silk Route adventure across Asia from Shanghai to Istanbul.
Developed by Australian cyclist, Bruce Robertson, who confesses he wants to do all the tours listed on his website, Cycle Tours Global provides a hub for a world of guided cycling tours, from rides across the English countryside, Tuscan vineyards and Canadian Rockies to the vineyards and chateaux of the Loire Valley, the deserts of Mongolia and the vastness of the Australian outback.
Longer rides include a 49-night Orient Express ride from Paris to Istanbul, a 79-day trans-Europe journey from St Petersburg to Lisbon,  a 51-day trip across the United States,  a 120-day African adventure from Cairo to Cape Town and a 132-day tour through South America while Australian tours include bike trips along the Great Ocean Rd and Birdsville Track and through the Snowy Mountains, Kakadu, Tasmania and Byron Bay hinterland.
Mr Robertson said the huge online resource was designed for cyclists of all abilities who loved to travel and travellers who loved riding bikes.
“Nothing beats seeing the world from the saddle of a bike under your own steam with the wind in your hair, plus it’s an environmentally friendly way to travel,” Mr Robertson said. “Cycle Tours Global aims to match cyclists around the world with cycle tours in almost every corner of the globe so the search for the best holiday on two wheels is easy, fun and quick.”
“There is a dizzying array of bike tours and websites around the world, so we’ve gathered them all in one place which also provides a fantastic channel for bike tour operators worldwide to market their tours.”
Mr Robertson said cycletoursglobal.com allowed users to search for tours by date, length, region, cost, difficulty level and also by themes, such as food and wine, music, family, charity, women-only or gay and lesbian. Ratings and reviews from fellow cyclists were also featured, with links to tour operator websites so bookings and inquiries could be made direct with operators.
