Suvarnabhumi will open economy lounges

03 Dec 2009  2201 | World Travel News

Airports of Thailand will provide lounges for economy-class passengers at Suvarnabhumi Airport by the end of 2010. Passengers will have to pay a surcharge to use the lounges.

AoT president, Serirat Prasutanond, said lounges would be built at two locations ? behind immigration areas on the east and west side of the airport concourse. The lounges will be managed by a private company using a bid process. No details were given on how the bid process would be managed.

?The lounges will offer similar facilities and services as first and business lounges, such as rest areas with showers and toilets, food and drink counters and comfortable lounge seating. We will offer a list of services and passengers can pick what they want and pay a fee.?

According to initial plan, the lounge should be able to cater to 200 people at any one time.

On the fees customers will pay, Mr Serirat said he was guessing it should not be more than Bt500.
By next year?s high season, Suvarnabhumi Airport will offer self-check-in kiosks.

?They will be common kiosks that can be used to check-in for any airline. We will provide the kiosks with a software link to the airline systems,? said Mr Serirat. AoT intends to install 18 machines.
