Cambodia to target Russian tourists

PHNOM PENH Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has outlined key strategies to attract more Russian tourists.

Khmer Times quoted Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, saying Russia is one of the main markets in Europe for all ASEAN nations and has strong potential for Cambodia.

To boost arrivals, Cambodia has set out four priorities.

It will push for direct flights between the countries possibly starting with charters.

Tourism services, particularly in the coastal provinces, will be improved targeting Russian tourists.

Low-cost trips for travel agents, or consultants from Russia, will be organised to introduce destinations particularly beach resorts.

Business matching forums between Russian investors and their counterparts in Cambodia will be held to attract potential tourist projects related to land and marine transport, hotels and attractions.

Sihanoukville province is viewed as an attractive destination for Russians tourists and now that Sihanoukville International Airport’s terminal building and runway are being expanded, more airlines will consider flights.

Russian investors linked to tourism have recommended that Cambodia further expand the terminal and runway at Sihanoukville airport to accommodate bigger long-haul aircraft that could bring in 250 to 300 passengers a flight in comparison to Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s that have a capacity of around 180 passengers.
