The National Committee of Maritime Security is researching a sunken ship found early this month at the bottom of the sea in Koh Kong province.
Admiral Tea Sokha, deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Navy, said the sunken ship was found by a Cambodian scuba diving team.
However, he could not confirm the type of the ship or how long it had been under the water.
“Now our working group is doing research on identifying the ship and its age,” he said. “We collected some parts of the ship and are studying what type of ship it is and when it sank.”
Research team leader Sorm Karaney said the shipwreck was found about a mile from Chlarm Island, also known as Shark Island, in Koh Kong province.
“Now we do not know yet whether it is a warship or cargo vessel. We are searching for related documents about some shipwrecks in that location” he said.
