Nearly 100,000 local and international tourists flocked to Preah Sihanouk province to attend Cambodia’s first-ever “Sea Festival” and the International New Year’s Day on Dec. 31, according to an official of the Provincial Department of Tourism.

The event took place at O’Chheuteal, the most popular beach in Preah Sihanouk coastal province, some 230 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh capital city, under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers H.E. Sok An, and Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon.

There were also Foods Festival, an exhibition, beach and water sport activities as well as art performances, live concert and fireworks on the occasion.

The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Preah Sihanouk authorities, is aimed at disseminating the tourism potentiality of Cambodian beaches listed since June 2011 as a World’s Most Beautiful Bay.

Preah Sihanouk province is one of Cambodia’s major tourism destinations after Phnom Penh capital city and Siem Reap province, home to Angkor temples.
