A Siem Reap man was charged with fraud on Sunday by the Banteay Meanchey provincial court for allegedly cheating a woman out of US$30,000 in exchange for promising to send her and her mother to live in the United States.

The deputy commander of Banteay Meanchey provincial military police said yesterday that Un Sophea, 45, was arrested on Friday in Sisophon district after traveling to the area with the woman whom he had defrauded, Aun Sophoung.

Un Sophea had allegedly posed as an American and told the victim that he could secure her and her mother’s safe and legal passage to live in the US for cash.
