PHNOM PENH-Cambodia Angkor Air plans to launch chartered flights between Siem Reap and the southeastern coastal Chinese city of Xiamen next month.

According to a local news report, CAA chairman, Tek Reth Samrach, said the airline plans to start services to Xiamen first and then follow through with a new service to Fuzhou two days later.

The flight to Xiamen will start 11 July departing 2050. It will offer two flights a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

The first flight to Fuzhou is scheduled 13 July, departing Fuzhou at 2105 on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“Besides Xiamen, the airline is looking at four other destinations in China starting with Guangzhou most likely with charter flights depending on the outcome of talks with tour operators.”

Cambodia Angkor Air has introduced three Airbus A321s to fly charter flights to Fujian, a province on the southeast coast of China. Two of the new aircraft are configured with 176 seats and the rest with 184 seats.

The tourism ministry reported that 25,906 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia in the first quarter of this year, a 6.9% increase from 24,225 during the same period last year.
