A delegation of Chinese trade officials from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality is visiting Cambodia to explore trade and investment opportunities and further enhance bilateral economic ties.
The delegation, led by Yi Wang, President of Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission, on Monday met with Cambodian commerce officials and representatives of Chinese companies in Cambodia.
Cambodia was the third destination of a three-nation tour, which had already brought them to Myanmar and Vietnam, according to Yi.
"Our visit is to observe business environment and investment opportunities in Cambodia in order to help further promote economic and trade relations between China and Cambodia," he said at a meeting with representatives of Chinese companies in Cambodia.
Meanwhile, Liu Erli, vice chairman of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, recommended the delegates to consider investing in agriculture and tourism, which still has much room to grow.
Cambodia's economy is mainly supported by garment industry, agriculture, tourism, and construction, he said.
The delegation arrived in Phnom Penh on Sunday for a four-day visit.
China is one of Cambodia's largest trade partners. Last year, bilateral trade volume stood at 2.9 billion US dollars and it is expected to reach 5 billion US dollars by 2017.
In terms of investment, China is the top investor in Cambodia. According to figures from the Council for Development of Cambodia, from 1994 to 2012, total Chinese investment in Cambodia has reached 9.17 billion US dollars.
