AirFrance KLM has reported efficiency gains for November 2014 as strategic changes and investments start to take effect.

Transavia

Strict capacity discipline yielded positive results for AirFrance KLM in November, rising 1.4% year-on-year (yoy) to 81.8%. Improved operating performance was achieved through a 1.3% decline in available seat miles (ASK) and an increase in passenger traffic , up 0.5% yoy to 5.9 million passengers.

Much of these efficiency improvements came through restructuring of short- and medium-haul point-to-point services, which drove a 2.2% improvement in passenger load factor to 76.5% on such routes. This was in turn supported by accelerated development of Transavia, the European low cost business unit. The subsidiary carrier recorded 22% yoy growth in passenger traffic, which rose to 0.5mn, as aggressive expansion drove up capacity by 48% yoy.

Looking further afield, performance on long-routes was even stronger with marginal gains recorded in load factor, rising 1.1% to 83.1%. Popularity of AirFrance KLM long-haul services is being reinforced by new products and services.

Having installed the new World Business Class on all its B747-400s, KLM brought its first B777-200 into service equipped with a new Economy cabin. The renovation of KLM’s 15 B777-200s will be completed by the end of 2015, and will be supplemented by the introduction of a new upmarket seat and catering proposition on AirFrance services from Paris.
