Lion flies to Changsha

BANGKOK Thai Lion Air will launch flights from Bangkok to Changsha in China effective 1 September.

According to the airline’s website, the new route will be served with four weekly flights departing Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, using a Boeing 737.

The service should be packed with Chinese tourist heading from Changsha, the capital of Hunan province in south central China for holidays starting in Bangkok.

Developing outbound travel from Bangkok to Changsha might be more problematic for the airline as Changsha is not as popular with Thai travellers as China’s eastern seaboard cities .

Changsha has a history dating back 3,000 years to the Han Dynasty (206 BC to 220 AD), and was the capital of Chu State (907 to 951) in the so called 10 Kingdoms period. Today, Changsha is an important commercial, manufacturing and transportation centre in China.

It is best known for providing inspiration and some of the landscapes that were used in the sci-fi epic Avatar mainly shot in the World Heritage Zhangjiajie National Park. Top attractions include the 7-km cable car ride from the town centre to one of the peaks and an all-glass walkway that scales one of the park’s cliffs.
