BANGKOK – The new long-haul connection between Bangkok and Munich completes Eurowings’ rapidly growing offer from southern Germany. The low-cost airline will launch two weekly flights on Saturdays and Mondays (from 16 July 2018) between the Thai capital and Munich. The inaugural flight will leave the Bavarian capital on 15 June 2018, whereas the first flight from Bangkok is going to take off on 16 June 2018.

Mr. Stefan Molnar, General Manager Sales Thailand, Vietnam and the Mekong Region for Lufthansa Group Airlines, said, “We are very pleased about this new route from Munich to Bangkok by Eurowings. The launch of this connection strengthens Lufthansa Group’s presence in this market and increases Lufthansa Group’s flexibility and choices in terms of overall offers from Thailand to Europe. Other than the three main hub airlines – Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines – we also cater for leisure travellers who are more cost-conscious to fly with Eurowings between Thailand and Europe.”

The amount of advance bookings for all long-distance connections from Munich shows a strong demand for the new Eurowings destinations. With the deployment of Eurowings aircraft in the Bavarian capital, the rapidly growing low-cost traffic at Munich Airport will further increase. Through offering flights to tourism destinations, Eurowings mainly focuses on leisure travellers, which is not served by Lufthansa from Munich.

The commitment we have shown with our high investment in the new business model of low-cost long-haul routes has paid off for us”, says Oliver Wagner, Managing Director at Eurowings. He adds, “Eurowings is the fastest-growing airline in Europe and is now strongly focusing on long-haul.”

With the new hub and several new destinations, the number of long-haul aircraft is going to increase as well: Eurowings will receive its seventh Airbus A330 in a few weeks and in 2018, the airline's intercontinental fleet will consist of 21 aircraft. Eurowings is one of the pioneers when it comes to long-haul flights of low-cost carriers and has been operating flights successfully in this growth segment for two years. The airline is flying to destinations all over the world: not only to Asia, but also to the Carribean beaches and the United States.
