The sixth edition of the Camfood and Camhotel expos began yesterday in Phnom Penh with the aim of promoting the local cuisine and hospitality sector and attract more visitors to the Kingdom.

The three-day event brings together more than 300 local and international firms from 26 countries.

Pak Sokhon, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism, said the exhibition gives a platform to local restaurants and food manufacturers to promote their products to an international audience.

Increasing the visibility of local products abroad will help attract more tourists to the Kingdom, which is one of the priorities of the government, Mr Sokhon said.

“The Camfood and Camhotel exhibitions gives local companies an excellent opportunity to showcase their products, particularly those in the food and beverage service sector,” he said.

Mr Sokhon emphasised the importance of enhancing the quality of local tourism products and services, as well as developing profitable tourism attractions.

“Having a good food offer is a key element of the tourism industry. Without good food and good service in restaurants we will not be able to increase the number of visitors to the country.”

“This year’s exhibitors are bringing new technologies and world-class suppliers that will be shared with local firms and this will help us upskill our own workforce,” said Luu Meng, president of the Cambodia Tourism Federation, the event’s organiser.

“It is very important for people in the restaurant and the hotel industry to acquire skills demanded at the international level to aid the development of the local tourism industry,” he said.
