Exports of fish and related products in Cambodia rose slightly during the first nine months of the year, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, though the sector suffered a small drop in revenue.

From January to September, revenue in the local fishing sector amounted to $324,998, a small decrease from last year’s $325,317 during the same period.

However, fresh fish exports were up 110 tonnes, reaching 7,060 tonnes. Exports of processed fish, meanwhile, rose by 90 tonnes to 3,970 tonnes.

43,400 tonnes of river fish were processed during the 9-month period (an increase of 2,100 tonnes), while for ocean fish the figure stood at 8,435 tonnes, a hike of 95 tonnes.

After a five-month hiatus in which the fishing season was officially closed, the ministry issued last month a statement to announce the launch of a new season in November. During closed season, fishermen can only use certain equipment for family fishing approved by the government.
