A group of Cambodian government officials have been chosen to participate in a training programme on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in Korea organised by that country’s development agency.

A total of 18 officials are now in the Korean city of Wonju attending the capacity building programme, which started yesterday and will run until the 17th of this month.

The course is being held at the Institute for Poverty Alleviation and International Development.

Jeong Yun Gil, country director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), said the objective of the programme is to raise awareness of the importance of M&E, strengthen the capacity of Cambodian officials, as well as lay the foundation of an institutional system and policies for proper M&E implementation.

The course will also enhance cooperation between the Cambodian and Korean governments and promote investment between the nations, Mr Gil said.

Participants come from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (13 officials), the Ministry of Planning (two), and the ministries of Education, Youth and Sports, Health, and Agriculture (one each), he explained.

Mr Gil asked the officials to make the most out of their time in Korea and share their experience and newly acquired skills with their Cambodian peers.

He said KOICA is now implementing a 3-year programme (2018-2020) to upskill Cambodian officials in government agencies and institutions. He said the programme’s first year focuses on management capacity building, targeting officials in charge of supervising M&E systems.
