A Canadian business delegation completed its five-day visit to Cambodia last week, saying its exploration of opportunities to grow ties with the Kingdom was successful.

In a press release, the delegation of Ontario politicians and businessmen said it visited Cambodia between January 14 and 18. The group was organised by Chhat Chhour, honorary consul representing the Kingdom of Cambodia in Toronto, Ontario.

Apart from business leaders, it included Canadian Member of Parliament for Don Valley North, Geng Tan; former Ontario Minister of International Trade, Michael Chan; former Ontario Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, Reza Moridi; and former Ontario Trinity-Spadina Master of Public Policy, Han Dong.

“I hope the opportunities recognised by the attendees will result in more foreign direct investment to benefit both Canada and the Kingdom of Cambodia."

“The coming decades will bring spectacular change to Cambodia’s landscape and there is no better time to forge partnerships and to establish a footprint in this great country than today,” said Chhour.

During its visit, the delegation received an enthusiastic and warm reception from political, commercial and academic leaders. It participated in discussions on how to open doors to new cultural, trade, investment and economic opportunities, aimed at prospering both countries.

Canadian-Cambodian relations are wide-ranging, cooperative and decades old. Canadian exports to the Kingdom have trended dramatically upward in the last five years.

Former Ontario cabinet minister Michael Chan said the visit to Cambodia reinforced the potential for growth between the two markets.
