Cambodia is discussing with legal experts whether or not to file a complaint against the European Union’s decision to impose import duties on its Indica rice, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Ministry spokesman Seang Thay said on Friday they are now collecting information to determine whether a complaint to the EU’s Court of Justice is needed.

“We are now at the stage of collecting data and concrete information.

“We cannot give you a specific timeframe regarding when the complaint could be submitted. We are carrying out discussions and weighing information to decide whether or not to submit the complaint.

“If we believe we have a good chance of winning, we will go ahead with the complaint,” Mr Thay told Khmer Times.

Cambodia has already filed a challenge at the European Court of Justice against the European Union’s decision to impose import duties on Cambodian rice, Reuters reported on April 11.
