British Airways has announced that it will begin operating flights from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to Heathrow from early December this year. Leeds Bradford Airport chief executive John Parkin said the airlines confirmation was “outstanding news” for the region. “This is an important new service to Heathrow connects Yorkshire with the world,” Mr Parkin said. “It provides our businesses with the access they need to emerging and established global markets, and enables those markets to easily come to Yorkshire, bringing their investment and inbound tourism direct to our region.” Prior to axing its flight from Leeds to Gatwick last year, Flybe Airlines reported that over 50,000 passengers had traveled to the capital in 2010. Bradford Chamber of Commerce vice president Paul Mackie said his members had “lobbied hard” for the flights from Leeds to London to be re-established. “The confirmation by British Airways was a massive boosts to the local economy,” Mr Mackie said. “It’s not just about us getting down to the south, it’s also about those southerners coming up north and doing business in the north too.” |
