BANGKOK, 5 July 2012: Firefly, Malaysia’s first commuter airline, will commence two new services to South Thailand this August.
On 11 August the airline will start services to Samui Island from Penang offer a three-weekly service mainly to Malaysian tourists. The flight will depart Penang at 1415 and arrive in Samui at 1445. It will do a quick turnaround at 1505 and land in Penang at 1735.
Another new service will follow, 17 August, linking Subang Airport on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai a commercial town in Songkhla province. It will operate the service four times a week departing from Subang at 0950 and landing in Hat Yai at 1010. The flight returns at 1030 and arrives 1300.
The Hat Yai service was supposed to start last April, but launch plans were put on hold after a bomb blast, 31 March, that destroyed part of a city centre hotel killing 3 people and injuring 23 foreign tourists.
Currently, Firefly operates Penang-Phuket, four times a week and Subang-Samui, daily.
Firefly is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines and operates a fleet of 12 ATR72-500 from Kuala Lumpur’s Subang Airport
