KUALA LUMPER, 27 July 2012: AirAsia announced operating results for the second quarter with Thai AirAsia posting a strong load factor of 79%.
The group – Malaysia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia posted average load factors of 79%, dropping 1% from the same period last year. It carried 8,285,250 passengers, growing 13% in line with capacity growth, which was also 13%. The group in Q2 had 100 aircraft compared to 93 last year.
Thai AirAsia, during April to June, carried 1,935,072 passengers, up 20% over 1,614,853 passengers during the same period last year, while capacity increased 19% from 2,063,160 seats (24 aircraft) to 2,452,320 (20 aircraft). Its load factor was up from 78% to 79%.
During this quarter, the carrier commenced a Chiang Mai-Macau service and added frequency to the domestic Trang route.
Indonesia AirAsia also enjoyed a good second quarter recording a passenger traffic increase of 15%, while capacity was up 12% and load factor improved two points to 78%.
The parent company, Malaysia AirAsia grew 10% in terms of passengers, while its capacity expanded 12% and its load factor dropped from 81% to 80%. See today’s story on Air Asia’s acquisition of Indonesian airline Batavia.
