BANGKOK, 29 August 2012: Ethiopian Airlines will reinstate frequencies on its Addis Ababa-Bangkok route to daily with an introduction of a Kuala Lumpur service via Bangkok from 31 October.
Ethiopian Airlines is now operating five weekly flights to Bangkok, scaled down from daily in June when it delinked Guangzhou to operate a daily nonstop to the Chinese city from Addis Ababa.
Four of the five weekly flights to Bangkok extend to Hong Kong. Once the airline flies daily to Bangkok; three of the services will continue to Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur-bound flight will depart Bangkok at 1430 and arrive at 1900. The Bangkok-bound flight will depart at 2150 and arrive at 0125.
Other carriers operating this route are Thai Airways International, Malaysia Airlines, Thai AirAsia and Lufthansa.
The airline’s CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam said: “…Kuala Lumpur has potential both for investment and leisure. Ethiopian is pleased to be the first East African carrier to fly to Kuala Lumpur, connecting Africa to the Asia region and in turn strengthening tourism and trade ties between the peoples of Africa and Asia.”
In addition, Ethiopian Airlines this month took delivery of its first of 10 Boeing 787-800 Dreamliners on order. It will rotate it primarily on its African routes.
After receiving the second one, Ethiopian plans to deploy the aircraft on its Washington DC route, starting from mid-September.
