Saudi Arabian Airlines flew a record 6.84 million passengers in June and August, registering an 8.2 percent increase in the number of travellers compared to the same period last year.

Saudi Arabian Airlines director general Khaled Al-Molhem attributed the airline’s success to the development of a strategic plan involving the enhancement of technical infrastructure, modernization of fleet and use of automatic and electronic facilities for ticket sales, according to Arab News.

Domestic passenger numbers grew 12.4 percent to 3.69 million and international passengers witnessed an increase of 3.3 percent to 3.14 million during June-August.

Saudi Arabian Airlines operated 47,460 flights; a rise of 6 percent compared with the same period in 2011.

“There was a 2.5 percent increase in the number of international flights [and] we succeeded in reducing delays to less than half an hour,” Mr Al-Molhem said.

“In August of this year, the overall performance reached 93.5 percent, the highest in 20 years.”

Saudi Arabian Airlines chairman Prince Fahd bin Abdullah congratulated the airline on its achievements.
