BA trials automatic check-in

Hoping to “revolutionise” the travel process, British Airways has commenced trials on a new automatic check-in service.

Available for selected passengers flying out of airports in France, the service will “save” passengers time by giving them the option to be checked-in automatically 24-hours before their flight and receive their boarding pass electronically.

The airline’s managing director of brands and customer experience, Frank van der Post said the system was designed to give today’s busy traveller “one less thing to think about”.

“Customers have so much to think about prior to a trip, be that finishing up in the office or getting the kids’ suitcases packed,” Mr van der Post explained.

“[Now] they just need to drop off any bags and make their way to the plane.”

Trials for the ?5 billion programme are expected to be extended to a larger group of travellers later this year before making the service available to customers across the British Airways network by the end of 2013.
