Condor Air, a German carrier launched on Saturday last week its services between Frankfurt and Siem Reap.

The first flight of Condor Air landed at Siem Reap International Airport at 06:01am with 264 passengers on board, according to a press release from Cambodia Airports, the developer and operator of Cambodia’s international airports.

The new liaison is currently the longest non-stop scheduled flight to operate in Cambodia.

The carrier operates one weekly flight, on Saturdays, with arrival in Siem Reap at 06:05 am and departure to Phuket (Thailand) at 07:25 am, said the press release, adding that Condor Air uses a 270-seat Boeing 767-300.

“Condor Air’s new service further evidences the attractiveness of Siem Reap and its landmark, the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Archeological Complex. In that context, we expect the airport to experience by year end a significant increase of its passenger output by more than 20 percent,” said Mr. Emmanuel Menanteau, CEO of Cambodia Airports.

The airport is to break the 2-million passenger mark by this coming December. To accommodate the steady increases, Cambodia Airports is launching in early 2013 an upgrading program to double the capacity of the platform to 5 million passengers.

At the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Christian Schmitt, Condor Air’s Vice-President of Ground Operations, said, “It makes sense that our company flies to Siem Reap as it boasts one of the most famous and visited tourism sites in the world.”
