EgyptAir permits stewardesses to wear headscarf

15 Nov 2012  2041 | Business & Trade Fairs

EgyptAir’s female cabin crew have won the right to wear the Muslim headscarf for the first time since the airline launched in 1932.

The decision ruling out the hijab was overturned earlier this week after religious stewardesses campaigned to wear the headscarf, like most Muslim women do in Egypt, The Sydney Morning Herald.

Under the county’s former president Hosni Mubarak, the hijab was forbidden to be worn in some state institutions, including on television and the national carrier.

However, the carrier has now agreed to design and supply up a cap and headscarf for up to 250 stewardesses, out of 900 women working for EgyptAir.
