Less than a month after speculations surfaced, Korean Air has confirmed it has made a bid to purchase a 44 percent stake in Czech Airlines.

According to the carrier, the bid of “several million dollars” was placed last week and will mark Korean Air’s first investment in another airline, The West Australian reported.

A Korean Air spokesperson added, that despite purchasing almost half the airline, the carrier would not be seeking control of Czech Airlines, which is currently state-run.

Korean Air currently flies to 12 destinations in Europe, while Czech operates 26 aircraft and flies to 62 European cities in 41 countries.
