Cambodia Airlines will begin operations later this year, as tycoon Kith Meng teams up with Philippine Airlines (PAL) to launch the new Asian carrier.

Royal Group chairman Kith Meng will own 51 percent of the airline and PAL will hold 49 percent, Forbes Magazine reported.

PAL filed a document with the Philippine Stock Exchange earlier this week, confirming the joint venture.

Cambodia Airlines will be competing with state-owned carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air and larger low-cost regional airlines such as AirAsia and Bangkok Airways.
