Jetstar’s Auckland-Wellington route has suffered hundreds of cancellations in May and June.
The Australian low-cost-carrier cancelled 300 flights owing to low demand on specific routes, the Dominion Post reported.
Jetstar spokesperson Phil Boyens said the airline had decided to cancel the services instead of reducing the cost of flights, as they were already low.
“It’s [Auckland-Wellington] the busiest route in New Zealand and it's a very competitive route,” Mr Boyens said.
“Last year we increased capacity by about a third in New Zealand, which is 600,000 seats, so this is the first season, if you like, that we've had that large capacity in the market.”
Mr Boyens added that no decision to cut back on any routes permanently had been made.
