SINGAPORE, 14 May 2013: Swiss International Air Lines launched a new daily nonstop service between Singapore and Zurich, Switzerland, Monday.
The new service, LX 179 uses an Airbus A340-300 aircraft for a route that will link two of the world’s important financial centres in Europe and Southeast Asia. It also provides convenient flight connections for travellers to Europe and beyond.
SWISS is offering a daily service using a three class configured Airbus A340-300 with 219 seats including the airline’s newest business class cabin featuring adjustable-air-cushion seats that convert into a two-metre-long lie-flat beds.
“With our daily nonstop services between Singapore and Switzerland we want to meet the growing travel needs of both business and leisure travellers between our countries,” emphasised SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister on the occasion of the first flight.
SWISS’s flight LX 179 departs 2310 and arrives in Zurich at 0610 the following day. The eastbound LX 178 service leaves Zurich at 2245 and lands in Singapore at 1715 the next day.
Over the last three years tourism arrivals from Southeast Asia to Switzerland have shown an increase of around 30%.
“We expect a further positive quantitative impact of an additional 5% to 10% growth from this region and Australia due to the new direct SWISS flight,” predicted Switzerland Tourism executive vice president, Urs Eberhard.
