Qantas has applied for a variation to Determination on flights between Australia and New Zealand to permit Emirates to codeshare on Qantas’ trans-Tasman services.
The application submitted to the International Air Services Commission (IASC) last week is part of the group’s five-year alliance with UAE-based carrier and will see Qantas price and market its services on the route jointly with Emirates or share or pool revenues/profits on the route.
Interest parties are able to make a submission on the application, with intention of submission due by close of business 5 July 2013.
Last week, Qantas also announced events leading up to the implementation of the alliance, including the reduction of routes to Europe and withdrawal of Frankfurt services adversely impacted its international revenue seat factor for the month of May 2013.
The airline’s international revenue seat factor fell 3.7 points from 77.1 percent in May last year to 73.4 percent this year.
As a group, Qantas passengers number during the months picked up by 2.8 percent year-on-year from 3.7 million to 3.8 million.
