Skyscanner releases Singapore Travel Trends 2013 report

SINGAPORE - Skyscanner, the world’s fastest growing global travel search site, has revealed its annual travel trends report which shows that 2013’s fastest growing destination from Singapore is the Maldives.

Skyscanner analysed millions of flight searches made on Skyscanner.com.sg this year and found that demand for air travel to the sun-kissed islands of the Maldives has increased by 94% compared to 2012. Following closely behind is South Korea which has seen demand grow by 79% year-on-year. Czech Republic (+55%), Brunei (+49%) and Taiwan (+37%) make up the top five fastest growing destinations by search volume.

In terms of the most popular travel destinations for Singaporeans, Thailand once again reigned supreme, followed by China, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Singaporeans’ favourite cities for travel in 2013 are Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Bali (Denpasar).

Skyscanner Marketing Manager for Southeast Asia, Janet Ranola said: “The emerging destinations on our list this year are an intriguing mix of Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. It’s particularly interesting to see four European destinations in the top 10 fastest growing destination searches on our site, suggesting that Singaporeans are travelling further than ever.”

On an annual basis, August was the most popular month to travel for Singaporeans, possibly because of the National Day long weekend. Monday was the most popular day for flight searches, although the majority of travelers preferred to depart on a Friday.

Around 20% of Skyscanner’s 25m monthly unique visitors now come from the Asia Pacific region with millions of flight searches performed worldwide on its site and mobile apps each year.
