TAIPEI- Under http://itaiwan.taiwan.net.tw, visitors can now register in advance to get free Wi-fi access all across the country. The Taiwan Tourism Bureau now recommend to travellers to the country to register to avoid queuing at the airport following their arrivals. The iTaiwan scheme is open to all international tourists visiting the country. The free Wi-Fi is then valid for up to 30 days, with the possibility of extending to 90 days thereafter. There are more than 5,100 hotspots in major tourist spots and transportation hubs across the country.

Registration on line is very simple and followed in two steps: entering a mobile phone number and then a code shown on the website. A confirmation number is then by sms to the provided mobile phone number. The i-Taiwan website provides a complete listing of all the available hotspots in all counties within Taiwan.

The service has met great success: it has even been mentioned on CNN as one of the ten best things that Taiwan does better than anyone else.

In another development, China Airlines has partnered with the Taiwan Tourism Bureau to paint one of its aircraft with images promoting Taiwan as a travel destination. Images on the fuselage of the Airbus 330-300 feature themes such as ecology, romance, fine cuisine, shopping, and culture. The aircraft is used on routes to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and mainland China, all key inbound-tourism markets for Taiwan. It should generate additional attraction from global travellers about the destination.
