Danang fund to tap private sector

Danang’s Tourism Promotion Centre will set up a tourism development fund in an effort to strengthen the city’s competitiveness to attract more visitors.
The centre claimed that the city is seeing positive results from its tourism promotion activities. However, the city’s image has not been advertised effectively in source markets such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Russia.
In addition, the funding for promotions in the city’s budget has remained low over recent years, forcing the centre to raise funds through private sector partnerships and sponsorship programmes.
As part of the “Year for Business 2014″ programme, the centre will establish a new fund to raise awareness for Danang this August.
It plans to raise support from SunGroup, Silvershores, VinaCapital, Vitours, VinGroup, Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific Airlines, all companies that benefit from a vibrant tourism market.
The first step is to create the legal basis to allow it to raise funding and manage projects that rely on private sector support.
This year, Danang forecasts it will attract 3.6 million tourist arrivals.
In 2013, Danang welcomed over 3.1 million visitors, an increase of 17.2% year-on-year, of which 750,000 were foreigners.
The number of tourists arriving in the city, using airlines, rose by 80% year-on-year and the airport averages 50 domestic and six international flights daily.
The number of international routes increased by eight during the year, and there are now four scheduled and 12 charter airlines flying international routes to Danang.
Most notably, the opening of new direct flight from Seoul and Siem Reap in July 2013 helped to bring more tourists to the city.
