Halong starts free bus service

The first free shuttle bus in Halong bay is motoring between important tourist attractions from Bai Chay to Halong Marine Plaza and a new Marina Bay beach.
Local media confirmed the free bus service began operating between Halong Plaza Hotel and the new Marina Bay beach, 15 June, making it more convenient for tourists to get around without the need to hook up with taxis.
Covering more than 12 locations of interest, such as hotels, trade centres, marinas and beaches along Halong and Hoang Quoc Viet streets, the Marine Plaza bus is the first free bus service for tourists.
In its first phase, the bus service operates daily from 1500 to 2210, four trips per day with a maximum capacity of 29 passengers per trip.
Shuttle bus services are common in Vietnam, but this is the first in Halong and also free.
The bus is operated by the Syrena Vietnam Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.
The company general director, Doan Thanh Mai, said the free shuttle bus will support tourism and help visitors to get to Halong Marine Plaza at no cost.
“It supports the Halong Marine Plaza and other tourist attractions along the way,” she said.
Halong Bay is the most popular sightseeing destination in north Vietnam and was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and the world’s New 7 Wonders of Nature in April 2012 by New Open World Corporation, an associate of the New 7 Wonders Foundation.
