Seven hotels in North Pattaya have created a marketing alliance to hire a branding agency , Sheer Bravado, to position the northern bay as an events and wedding destination.
The North Pattaya Alliance leaders are Chatchawal Supachayanont, general manager of Dusit Thani Pattaya and Brendan Daly, general manager of Amari Pattaya.
The hotel alliance is funding a campaign tagged “North Pattaya – more than you think…” that has the backing of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Pattaya City.

Pattaya City Mayor, Ittiphol Kunplome (3rd from left), Poramet Amatyakul, Executive Director, Information Technology, TAT (3rd from right) and Puripan Bunnag, Director Domestic MICE, TCEB (2nd from left).
There are seven core hotel members: Amari Pattaya; Cape Dara Resort; Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya; Dusit Thani Pattaya; Holiday Inn Pattaya; Pullman Pattaya Hotel G; and The Zign Hotel.
Initial attempts to launch the alliance started two years ago with an inaugural meeting in August 2012 that led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding 7 November 2012.
Essentially the MoU identifies the need for individual hotels to compete, while at the same time recognising that a joint promotions would serve the interests of the entire group to distinguish the area from other bays that make up greater Pattaya City that stretches a good 20 km from north to south.
North Pattaya bay was the site of the first small resorts and holiday villas in the 1970s and initially attracted Bangkok residents who rented or bought second homes. The first commercial hotel project was Wong Amat that was later sold the Central group that redeveloped the site for its Centara Mirage property.
Amari Pattaya assumed the role of NPA campaign coordinator and that led the group to appoint Sheer Bravado, a Bangkok-based branding agency. The company’s managing director Bob James, who was a well-known marketing guru in Asia’s hotel industry for decades will create a positioning campaign and branding exercise for the seven hotels.
Amari Pattaya, executive director of events, David Barrett, was identified in the group’s press statement as the campaign champion, who secured support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand), Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Pattaya City. No details were available on funding for the campaign, but it thought the hotels will pay most of the campaign costs and TAT, TCEB and Pattaya City will provide distribution support.
A series of short videos profiling North Pattaya, spearheaded by the seven hotel PR managers, are currently in production. The two-minute videos will be launched this August.
Amari Pattaya general manager, Brendan Daly said: “Our series of video shorts, formatted for social media, aim to present the best of North Pattaya…“We are committed to using YouTube, Facebook and other channels to spread the word that North Pattaya is the place to meet for corporate meetings, executive retreats and Indian weddings.”
