Thai Skål clubs may bid congress

CHIANG MAI Thailand has an opportunity to host the Skål World Congress 2017, according to Skål Thailand president, Dale Lawrence, who was reporting on the outcome of the world congress held in Mexico recently.
He said depending on the support of clubs in Thailand an official bid would need to be made at the Mombasa congress next year.
Lawrence noted that Skål International has raised the entry fee for new members by THB1,000 a decision that impacts on all local clubs, worldwide, who are attempting to build membership.

Skål Thailand voted against the proposal, which will now be effective 1 January 2015. The old fee will remain in force for the rest of this month and Lawrence said clubs should encourage potential members to join ahead of the fee increase deadline.
Opening membership to executives working in medical tourism was also discussed at the congress, but the parameters of who would be eligible have still to be worked out.
In regional developments, Skål Thailand has voted to re-enter the Asia Area clubs group and individual clubs will need to consider whether they wish to join or not.
Skål clubs are organising their end-of-the-year parties with the Chiang Mai club organising its Christmas dinner at the 137 Pillars House 11 December.
The Bangkok club is hosting its joint Christmas party with the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s Chapter, 11 December at the Lotus Room, Queen Sirikit Convention Centre.
