DANANG  Danang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has instructed one and two-star hotels to register to allow the city to make a quality assessment of all properties.
Local media reported that the department has asked all hotels to register, even if they are budget properties in line with the city’s decision, last month, to tighten controls and raise the quality of hotel services in Danang.
The department deputy director, Tran Chi Cuong, said the current regulations require accommodation facilities to register within 15 days of opening and that they complete a quality assessment within three months.
But around 160 to 170 hotels of one and two-star standards in the city have yet to register for quality evaluation.
inside no 2In line with the new regulations, hotels will have to submit their quality registrations to the department, or seek permission to reschedule the deadline or they will face sanctions, the report said.
However, some hoteliers said the regulations that require one-star hotels to have restaurants and two-star hotels to have conference rooms were too strict and needed revision.
Most of the single and two-star hotels offer a bed and breakfast amenities. The size and scope of the hotels does not justify conference rooms or restaurants.
However, they appeal to tourists, especially those who use low-cost airlines and travel on a budget or prefer to stay in smaller usually family run boutique hotels.
The department had proposed the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to consider revising the regulations to make them workable at a local level, the deputy director said.
