BANGKOK  Thailand enjoys a long weekend holiday, 4 to 6 April just a week ahead of the popular Songkhran festival, 13 to 15 April.
Both are public holidays for government, banks and commercial sectors.
The country celebrates Chakri Memorial Day, Monday 6 April to honour he nine kings who have ruled Thailand under the present Chakri Dynasty.
inside no 7The first king in the Chaki Dynasty, Rama I, founded the capital in Bangkok. The current ruler, His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the world’s longest reigning monarch. He has reigned since 9 June 1946.
Monday 6 April is also a national holiday which gives Thailand’s residents an opportunity to travel.
The three-day holiday ends just days before the Songkhran festival, gets underway 13 to 15 April.
Songkhran is officially a three-day holiday that prompts a massive exodus of Bangkok residents who return to their rural homes to spend the holiday with their families and friends. However, it usually spreads out to cover five to seven days.
