Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) were awarded two top titles at this year’s prestigious National Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Awards in Hamilton Island last night.

Along with more than 80 finalists across Australia, MCEC were announced the national winners of ‘Banqueting and Catering’ and ‘In-house AV Services’, both for the second consecutive year at MEA’s annual conference.

MCEC’s Chief Executive Peter King said the venue prides itself on its outstanding delivery of meetings and events, and these accolades help to validate these efforts.

“To be recognised on a national level amongst the best of the best in the meetings and events industry is a real credit to our passionate and hardworking team at MCEC."

“With MCEC’s expansion confirmed by the Victorian Government in the recent State Budget, it’s encouraging to know that we are ranked amongst the best in Australia."

Since 2009 MCEC have invested in excess of $15 million into their technology infrastructure, recently rolling out a $3 million digital signal project to support the rise of bring-your-own-device technology.

MCEC have also recently developed a strategic five-year road map to enhance its food and beverage offering, undertaking extensive industry research in food and lifestyle trends for business events.

“We are making sure we take the right steps to position ourselves at the forefront of the industry and will be working hard to maintain this with our expansion,” King added.

Yesterday evening MCEC Director of Sales, Marketing and Club Melbourne and MEA Vice Chair, Anne Jamieson revealed MEA’s 2016 National Conference would be held at MCEC in Melbourne from 17-19 April.

“We are looking forward to welcoming MEA back to Melbourne and MCEC. This is the premier conference for our industry and we can’t wait to show our industry colleagues everything our venue and great city have to offer,” King said.

MEA awards are assessed across a range of business criteria and the year in review, which looked at financials, activities, challenges and impact on the meetings and events industry as a whole.
