BANGKOK  Money matters in Mekong region tourism will be in sharp focus on 17 June at the Mekong Tourism Investment Summit in Danang, Vietnam.
CEOs and stalwarts of popular hotel brands, leading NGOs, investment agencies and tourism money pundits will study investment opportunities in the Mekong Region which is a part of the wider ASEAN community.
The Mekong Region has six country members: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and two provinces in China.
The contrasts in tourism spending and investment potential are staggering when comparing the riches of China, on one hand, to the absence of funding in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
inside no 6China is the biggest investor in the Mekong region and is likely to have an even bigger influence as construction of rail lines and highways begin.
But discussions at the Mekong Investment Summit will focus on accommodation and hotel brand opportunities.
Alternative accommodation models will be discussed by Rory Hunter, CEO Song Saa Hotels & Resorts, Bill Barnett, CEO C9 Hotelworks, and Jack Bartholomew, Indochina Director, Khiri Travel.
Warts-and-all practitioner perspectives will be shared by James Kaplan, SVP Development, Minor Group, Peter Ryder, CEO, Indochina Capital, Peter Semone, Chief Technical Advisor, Lanith, and Robert Hecker, Managing Director, Pacific Asia, Horwath HTL.
There will be additional sessions to allow stakeholders to mull over the big picture, the power of low-cost airlines and international finance institutions led by speakers Daniel Voellm of HVS and Kevin Murphy of Asiawide Hospitality Solutions, who is also chairman of PATA.
