TCEB to promote MICE standard

BANGKOK Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau says it will improve standards to ensure the MICE industry can deliver top quality products for event organisers.
Speaking at a media group interview, Monday, TCEB MICE Capability Department director Nichapa Yoswee identified the benefits of a new Thailand MICE Venue Standard that will help to improve efficiency. It will be developed as part of a wider ASEAN venue standard by 2020.
The plan sets out criteria for meeting venues to check their level of competency and service facilities for meeting organiser using a national or regional standard or benchmark.
The scheme will attempt to improve Thailand’s MICE venues to reach international standards. But it will also develop human resources and advance IT adoption in the MICE industry.
inside no 4The plan is part of a wider scheme that will establish the ASEAN’s MICE Venue Standard over the next five years.
TCEB often announces grandiose schemes and this one has an impressive 41 projects that will consume a budget of more than THB66 million, according to the director.
The Thailand MICE Venue Standard was introduced in 2013 between TCEB and MICE coalitions.
The director cited: “Approximately 80 venues joined and 42 have achieved standardisation.”
It enables Thailand’s MICE industry to have a point of reference to show facilities have reached a certain standard.
TCEB is a player in forming the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard or the ASEAN’s Meeting Room Standard that is being formalised at present.
She added: “Every country in ASEAN will comply with the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard. It will be validated within two years.”
In the meantime, meeting organisers rely on their local destination management companies to check out facilities and report back on whether a facility meets criteria set out by the client.
