Greening hotel keeping

BANGKOK Judging by the turnout at Monday’s Green Hotel Supplier and Consumer Conference, hoteliers are keen to be green especially when they are buying services and products.
Around 130 hoteliers attended the event joined by more than 70 suppliers.
Sponsored by the Green Leaf Foundation, Human Resources Management Club and the Thai Hotels Association the event was hosted at Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok.
It was the first conference in Thailand to focus entirely on green procurement for the hospitality industry.
inside no 5Against the backdrop of a travel industry that is likely to generate 28 million trips this year hotel owners recognise they need to ensure their purchasing departments are as green as possible.
Speakers gave useful insights into how hotel operations could reduce environmental impact by wise purchasing and selecting partners who shared the same green commitments.
Addressing the issues of sustainable purchasing and energy savings in hotels, Dr Chirapol Sinthunawa head of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University & Vice President and Secretary-General of the Green Leaf Foundation encouraged hotel owners to do more, explore options and share knowledge working together to green the hotel business in Thailand.
Other presentations based on personal experience and projects that worked in their hotels were given by: Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi executive vice president, Sukosol Hotels; Buntha Petchnoi, casting and coaching director, Sofitel So Bangkok; and Chatchawal Supachayanont general manager, Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya.
