Luggage thefts thrive at Vietnam airports

HANOI  The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will adopt a series of measures to deal with the theft of check-in luggage at airports nationwide.
CAAV general director, Lai Xuan Thanh, told local media, last week, that individuals and enterprises involved in the process of inspecting check-in luggage and goods at airports will be made responsible if thefts are reported.
Although the plan was launched, last March, luggage theft at airports during the first six months of the year was higher than in previous years, Saigon Times reported.
inside no 4CAAV admitted there were 205 cases of pilfering of check-in luggage in 2013 compared with 141 cases in 2012. There were 301 theft cases last year and for the first six months of this year 168 thefts were reported.
People assigned to handle baggage will be made responsible for any thefts reported in the future.
Police will be asked to investigate serious theft cases and airport staff and team leaders could be suspended during an investigation if needed.
CAAV told Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to complete the construction of security fences at all airports and install more cameras at warehouses and other places to monitor check-in luggage at airports.
