Marco Polo names new president

HONG KONG Marco Polo Hotels confirmed, Thursday, the group’s president Eric Waldburger, will retire effective 31 January 2016.
He led the company for the past three years through one of its most active periods in over a decade with openings in the past year of Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, Marco Polo Changzhou and the launch of the new brand, Niccolo by Marco Polo in Chengdu, China.
At the same time he prepared the three Hong Kong properties for the challenging years ahead, spear-heading the amalgamation of operations at the three properties.
He said: “This has been a most dynamic period for Marco Polo Hotels and I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with a company that believes in a long-term vision to grow a sustainable hotel company. I know I can leave with the belief that we have taken the group to a higher level, which will ensure its success long into the future.”

He also announced his successor, Jennifer Cronin, who is currently vice president sales & marketing of the group.
“Jennifer has clearly demonstrated her commitment, leadership and professionalism since joining Marco Polo Hotels in May 2014. We are confident that Jennifer will strategically drive new initiatives and developments for the group and further strengthen the Marco Polo and Niccolo brands as we expand our portfolios.”
An Australian, she has worked in Asia and Australia in senior marketing and operational roles, including Hyatt International, Ritz Carlton and Dusit International.
She will commence her duties as president-designate 1 August this year, and will then assume the role of president upon Waldburger’s retirement 1 February 2016.
A wholly owned subsidiary of The Wharf (Holdings) Ltd, Marco Polo Hotels currently operates 14 owned or managed upscale, full-service hotels throughout Hong Kong, China and the Philippines.
Niccolo by Marco Polo was recently added to the group’s portfolio as the new luxury collection. In addition to four Niccolo hotels, the group has a further two Marco Polo properties currently under development, bringing the group to 19 hotels in total.
