World famous noma restaurant relocates to Sydney

noma, the world famous Copenhagen restaurant, will arrive in Sydney next year for a 10-week residency.

Head chef Rene Redzepi and his team will temporarily close the original noma restaurant in Denmark and relocate to a new waterfront home at Barangaroo, Sydney Harbour. The initiative is being backed by Tourism Australia.

The two Michelin-starred restaurant regularly tops lists of the world’s best restaurants.

“I have always been attracted to the incredible diversity you find in Australia’s landscapes and ingredients, because they are like no other place I’ve seen before,” said Chef Rene.

“We look forward to the new year and this new exploration. It will be a different journey, but one that I am incredibly excited about – the opportunity to broaden our horizons, to expand our minds and our tastes, to make new friends, and catch-up with old ones, as we delve into this magnificent landscape,” he added.

Tourism Australia’s managing director, John O’Sullivan, said the noma move formed part of its ‘Restaurant Australia’ campaign.

“A big part of Restaurant Australia has been about improving Australia’s perception as a food and wine destination. And, with one of the world’s top ranked restaurants about to open in Sydney, I’d say our country’s culinary standing has never been higher,” he said.

Located in the Anadara building, noma Australia will launch in January 2016 and will be open five days per week for lunch and dinner.

This is not the first time noma has relocated; in summer 2012 the restaurant decamped to London for a 10-day stint at Claridge’s, and it then moved to Japan for two months at the start of 2015.
